The New Downtown

Cockburn Harbor, the quaint downtown section of South Caicos, is home to most of the island’s 1,200 current residents. The village is a quiet community of Caribbean-inspired homes, most of which are surrounded by short stone walls. The waterfront along the harbor is mostly undeveloped.

The government of Turks and Caicos has made a meaningful commitment to the island of South Caicos to further improve its infrastructure and accessibility. $10 million has been allocated for these improvements, many of which are already in progress.

  • New airport terminal for the South Caicos International Airport to complement the existing 6,000-ft. runway. The temporary terminal has already been built for use during the construction of the new terminal
  • Repaving of the existing 6,000-ft. runway at South Caicos International Airport
  • Rehabilitation of Historic Buildings in Cockburn Harbor town
  • Paving Roads – The government has committed to paving many of the main roads in South Caicos, with machinery currently arriving on the island for this project
  • Road Signs will be installed in Cockburn Harbor throughout the village
  • General Improvement of the historic wall bordering properties in Cockburn Harbor
  • Health Care Clinic – A new health care clinic is nearing completion to service the medical needs of the island
